Jianrong wants to say thanks

Jianrong is now in Dubai. He is very bored. Dubai may be a wonderful city, but their airport SUCKS! At least they have wireless internet... Anyway, Jianrong wants to say "Thank you" to all the guys who went to send him off at the airport. And for the bag of course. And for the dictionary from Jeff. Well, it's starting to dawn upon Jianrong how alone he is. He will go and cry now. Haha

I am not using img src because despite having rotated my scan with every single photo editing software imaginable, it still comes out portrait on flickr when i link it.

it's 5 am and i thought what the heck i might as well finish with the scanner. Enough scanning for the day.

Irene (can't be contacted?)

Anyway million thanks to Zining who helped to contact some of the girls.

As Lip has mentioned, anyone who can come please meet at Chinatown MRT at 7 pm this Friday (27 May 05). For those coming late, you can reach me at 90****** or Lip at 96******. (For anyone else reading this blog, no prank calls OK? Or you'll know what it's like to be at the mercy of a lightsaber.) If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to post or you can tell us on that day itself and we'll see how we can improvise to satisfy as many people as possible.

Hope those still tentative can try to make it down, even if it's for an hour or two. You know, just to see how some of the people are doing etc. It's going to get harder to meet each other as time goes by. And also hope to hear from those unknown soon, on the slim chance they chance upon the news.

envious book geek

i'd love to meet up with everyone, except for the fact that im stuck in sydney. oh well, remember to take more photos and post them up! it all seems so final; everyone is moving away to all parts of the globe and opportunities for meeting up will be few and far between. time to rack up more frequent flier miles. *waves hand frantically* remember to save me some floor space if i happen to be in the vicinity... will cook in return.

anyway i'll def be back in july; actually flying back on july 2nd. so if anyone's still around, wanna meet up in the first couple weeks of july? cos ill be going to thai for a week for R&R before heading back into the icy wilderness of Sydney. lol... its 18C out and i have my heater on full speed. tsk tsk...

p.s. if i don't manage to see u guys before u all leave, TAKE CARE and leave yr mailing addresses for care packages.
p.p.s michelle: you look GREAT in that article jesse put up. the first (?) of many articles to be published huh? :)

Frog/Fish/Human/Duck/Chicken/Cricket/Spider/Jedi Porridge

Okay.

So huili has a toothache. so we have to eat porridge.

So tentatively, can everyone make it at 7 pm at chinatown mrt on friday?

Those who know the place, it's the famous frog porridge at chinatown. They sell the frog porridge in claypot for around $9, option for $14 if two share (just the frog legs). porridge for 50 cents.

and for the other options, there is any other type of porridge. Pig intestines, fish, pork, etc etc etc. also got wanton mee.

place quite crowded, but upstairs always got space.

So 7pm, Chinatown Point Macdonalds. Okay?

And karaoke after that is at party world behind the frog porridge place. (i dunno wad the shopping center is called). There's this BIG BIG room for everyone, or we could do small rooms if you can't stand my singing.

or could just talk cock.

so okay?

everyone else not mentioned above

Anyone can help me contact people like Irene, Agnes, Hungyi, Weimin? Don't think I have their current contacts anymore.

It seems like the only suggestion was by Lip to go Chinatown for frog porridge and then Karaoke. If no one have any vehement objection I suggest we follow that.

Hope to hear from those unknown soon.

Re:2 Reunion/Gathering/Meeting Up/Last Ditch Effort to See Everyone Before Disappearing Into Some Part of the World

Hi ppl, sorry for my disappearance frm e face of e online world for e past 2 yrs, it's just that i really couldn't read any of the postings in yahoo grps at all (always in 'unreadable format' for some reason)
Anw it's sad that so many of u r leaving b4 e yr is up, I'll definitely miss u guys (yes, even jesse, alex and lip, altho e effects of e 'stuck-wif-each-other-for-1-mth' syndrome isn't completely gone yet...). All those nights 'swimming' at lip's place, watching soccer, insulting Liverpool, getting drunk/deaf at Wala's, losing voices at dark KTV joints, not to mention e time we spent tgt getting bowled over by e beauty and ppl (men, women, she-males and all) of Indochina... these will be memories that I'll cherish, rest assured. Haha and I sure hope I'll be e lucky dude, although I wouldn't bet my money on that ( even lawyer charms aren't that miraculous. I hope my 'li shang wang lai' can become a powerful enough secret weapon (sorry gals, only e guys will understand this part, will explain to u all when there's a chance)). Jr u better take ur German seriously, otherwise u'll never master e skill (or get Heidi Klum) hehez (Damn I shld have practised more in Vietnam...)

Btw Jeff noticed u gave an update on everyone except urself... so where r u going? I'm sure everyone else would like to noe too

Well hope this will be an effective means of staying in touch, looking forward to seeing everyone again. Ciao

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Review (Warning: Spoilers Ahead)

I'm sure most people would have watched it by now, if not by this long weekend. I bought the tickets 10 days earlier and still had to content with being in the fifth row from the front in Lido, with all other cinemas on Orchard Road overbooked. (Though somehow they left tickets for an earlier screening a day before for late bandwagon hoppers like Lip. Looks like only buggers get all the luck.)

Warning: Please do not continue if you do not wish to read any spoilers of the movie.

Action scenes are fantastic. I shall say that again. Wow. I don't ever think any other Sci-Fi movie comes close. Lightsaber duels can only get more exciting and nail-biting and awesome, inspires you to become a Jedi just for the chance to wield what must be the coolest weapons in popular culture (no, those things they sell as "Lightsabers" are still amateurish attempts, even with the gradual lighting up and 12 type of sounds to match the actions). The battle scenes between droids and V-wings and everything else are unbelievable. Even an ordinary everyday scene on Coruscant the Republic capital is dazzling. We should replicate those skylines some time.

And they really did a great job of tying up all the loose ends and inconsistencies, like how Darth Vader lost his body, how Palpatine became all gnarled and gnome-like, how Luke and Leia were separated and that Vader only suspected the existence of Luke, how the only Jedi there seemed to be left from Episode IV onwards were Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, how Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda knew some form of immortality (from Qui-Gon Jinn?), how C-3PO and R2-D2 didn't recognise Tatooine when they landed on it again in Episode IV, etc etc. And they even found time to introduce Chewbacca!

No ridiculous love dialogues between Anakin Skywalker and Padmé like in Episode II; George Lucas can't write romance for nuts. No slapstick jokes involving Jar Jar Binks like in Episode I; in fact, he only had a cameo near the end. No frivolous storylines like in Episode I, though if they managed to tank this most anticipated and familiar episode with such storylines, they'd deserve an award.

Awesome music by John Williams. Can't wait to hear the soundtrack.

Dialogue could improve. By a lot.

That said, I do think that Anakin succumbed to the Dark Side too fast and too easily. Maybe there were too many plotlines they had to fit into one movie, but I think building up and expanding on that one most important plot would have been worth it.

Favourite Characters: Obi-Wan Kenobi (of course), Padmé
Favourite Non-Human Characters: R2-D2, General Grievious
Favourite Scene: Yoda walked in on Palpatine , the guards tried to stop him and with just a gesture from him they both fell dead.
Favourtie Soundbite: "Failed I have." - Yoda

All in all, I'd say good job by George Lucas. Fitting end to the Star Wars saga. May be the best of all Star Wars movies, except maybe Episode V.

Wonder if anyone will decide to make Episode VII? Or any of the in-between episodes? Will it be the same without George Lucas steering?

Trivia: It is quite common knowledge that James Earl Jones was the voice of Darth Vader, and some know Yoda as Frank Oz, but do you know who is behind C-3PO, R2-D2 and Chewbacca? (without referring to a cast page, of course)

To Chan Lek and anyone else interested

Hi, as you might know by now I will be leaving for Germany on May 31. I will pursue what the German's call a Diplom, which is the equivalent of a Masters degree, however lowly that sounds to Singaporeans. I will first have to undergo an intensive 8-month course in German because the courses are (obviously) conducted in that language. I haven't gotten a place in the university yet, but I will be applying for Universität Mannheim. Should not be a problem getting in. The university course itself will take 4 to 5 years, depending on intellectual ability and degree of hard work. Obviously, I will require the lesser. Haha

2. Then go Xenbar for Salsa fiesta:) woohoo.

3. Or break for Party World Karaoke at Chinatown there.

Alternatively
1. Harbourfront for (i dunno wad)

2. Sentosa for beach volleyball (tell me early, need to work out)

Currently...

Diaries used to be private yet now, blogging is so public and has become a culture. Ha. It's wonderful having a class blog... My sec sch class has 1 too (http://rv4e2000.blogspot.com/). It makes you feel connected somehow.

It's the starting of the 2nd week of my 10-week professional attachment... I'm now working in an audit unit at one of the big 4 firms. Being an intern at a big 4 firm seems prestigious but the work seemly bores me to tiredness. I could be so tired stoning and staring at the computer for long hours that I slept at 8pm on the 2nd day of work straight till the next morning. Reality is always far from ideal. It's off-peak period now so there isn't much things I can do...can surf net all the time...not bad actually. I was stucked in the office until today when I finally visited a client with a senior. Despite being at the client's office, there was still nothing for me to do except chit-chat, slack and 'act' busy in the auditors' room. Haha. Shall wait and see how things go in the next few days...high possibility that I've less time to slack then...

Reunion/Gathering/Meeting Up/Last Ditch Effort to See Everyone Before Disappearing Into Some Part of the World

How's it going, dudes and gals of 01S70?

Maybe it's the too much free time in my hands, but have been feeling rather nostalgic lately, as one is wont to do when one has time to reflect and ponder before stepping into the next big phase of life. For the gals this may seem long ago but fatefully for most of the guys it's just coming up in the later part of this year. Here's some update on what will happen to us, as far as I know, for those of you dorks like me out there who haven't been keeping up with the news (I sense I'm actually quite lonely in this spot).

Jianrong: leaving end of May for Germany
Lip Jin: leaving September for Chicago, IL, USA to dabble in economics
Zhengyan: leaving September for Wharton Business School, Philadelphia, PA, USA
Joses: leaving August/September for Providence, RI, USA to unravel the mysteries in neurology
Alex: leaving late September/October for Imperial College, London, UK
Jesse: leaving late September/October for LSE, London, UK
Zhenliang: poor guy who has to stay all alone in Singapore (or lucky dude who gets to keep the girls all to himself, lawyer charms notwithstanding)

So we might as well meet up right? I sure hope most of you agree with that sentiment. I'm proposing dinner on 27th or 28th May, so it can also be a farewell for Jianrong. I think it's holidays for most of you, except maybe Huili. And I know Wendy, Maria, Weng can't make it back, and not sure whether Hongyan and Zhenying are back yet then. But we'll try to make do with who we have. Hopefully everyone can reply on their attendance, and give ideas on where to go, what to do etc.

Hope to hear from you soon. Muchas gracias!
