Little Laughing Matters - JR's council publicity stunt

hmm... this is my first time posting pics, so hope nothing will screw up. in any case, lip / any other admin can help me clear up the mess.

found a few interesting pics of JR while archiving my comp - no not that i like him in that way (not in that way) - but anyway i was wondering whether any of u guys remember how jr campaigned for council using virtually ZILCH funds? From writing only his name on the transparencies, to putting up sequential lame-shit posters at the pillars near the squash courts??? WELL.... here are the photos, all taken in my bedroom with trembling hands and a cramping stomach -

dunno who to vote for in council?

dunno who to vote for in council?

fret not!

siapa mau makan sama saya?

hi well i'll be leaving soon, as will some of the other members of the class, maybe teachers? and though its not big thing, but i'd just thought it'd be nice to get everyone together one last time (well not really too, but...). Basically we can makan, food will be free if everyone tells me early enough. For anyone else who is leaving, and feels generous enough, can contribute, cook your own curry or something, but more likely, like bob geldof, i'll just say (just give us your fucking money! africa needs it.) , and i'll get a nice restaurant where we can all fit in.

i'm looking at a date near aug 19th, venue will be somewhere near my place so i won't have to walk so far and maybe i'll ask the principal of hwa chong institution whether i can barbeque on the roof of his car porch. he'll respond with a polite no, i'll say the money goes to africa, perhaps a tear will come to his eye and he'll let me. i digress. but of course people need to be interested first, so please do be, you can come in fancy suit and costume if it makes it any more interesting. but even if it turns out to be a very small gathering, i'll be happy enough. details akan datang.

Lots of love, XOXOXOOXOX
Jesse

that's not the great wall, i'm mistaken. seeing how everyone's so interested in satellite imagery (okay, maybe us geeks), and that we never got to do it because we didn't do geog, there's another site which belongs to the people who own the satellites, or got them into space.

http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/

You can search great wall and voila you'll see why I'm wrong and why using google's puny imagery you can never find it, you need the city level imagery that they have, besides, in order to resolve things from satellite it's a careful mix of colour and time of day and then you can resolve things like shadows and such. It's interesting cause there's a greater range of colours and techniques used to show environmental processes like flooding, fault lines, and generally how we're screwing up the world, which was why the site was set up in the first place. it doesn't have the organisation of google's earth view though.

Google Challenges

After a chat with Jesse last night, there are a few google challenges using Google Earth that You can partake in:)

1) Find the great wall. (of china la. Not pakistan)
Jesse maintains that THIS is the great wall. I disagree.

I'm using Google earth and according to this website, the great wall circles SHIZUISHAN. Which i found on Google Earth, but I can't find a trace of the great wall. Humbug. So much for the largest man made structure on planet Earth.

2) Find Area 51, where Aliens stay.

If you're tired of looking, here is it.

3) And this is a picture of some Nazi loving architect in San Diego.

Ahhh the wonders of Technology. I've seen the Eiffel Tower, Visited Ground Zero in Manhatten, Cruised the grand Canyon via the Colorado River, Visited Tiananmen, Mount St. Helens and Moscow's Red Square, w/o leaving my bedroom.

I wuv Google.

Time to buy google stock.

Google - man's greatest invention

After Lip's inspiring post, I'll reveal a few more of Google's best-kept secrets.

There is no OFFICIAL link to this page housed on google's servers. It lists ALL misspellings of 'britney spears' as entered into Google's search engines. The data's kinda old, though.

Just launched in on 20th July 2005 to commemorate the 36th anniversary of man's first landing on the moon is moon.google.com. Nothing to get really excited about here.

And if you're no satisfied with 2D satellite pictures of your house, check out earth.google.com. But you gotta have a moderately new PC, some funky 3D graphics card and broadband to download the Earth onto your screen.

©All information is gleaned from a*star scholars in between discussions of SAFOS scholars and our next outing to cocco latte or Zouk.

happy cow

yalo yalo, i just got back from chiangmai and i just had to blog abt it. it was utterly fabulous. i did very little shopping *faint* and i went trekking! anyway if anyone gets the urge to go up, down, around and over hills for 4 hours and end up sleeping in a bamboo hut with no running water or electricity, contact eagle guest house in chiangmai. they have excellent tours and i was really impressed with how my guide scuttled up hills in 3-for-$10 slippers while everyone else slid backwards in their brand name pod cloppers.

really picturesque watching little lumps of green elephant turd bob merrily down the river and realising that humans rely on that same river for all their watery needs. new water never seemed so tasty in my life. :)

also do try the chiangmai cooking sch. its really good and all hands-on. would recommend skipping brekkie though. 6 dishes does tend to stretch the tummy a little.

NKF

Finally! Some vadalism in SINGAPORE! WOW! never seen it before man.

Like NKF got vandalised with signs such as "liar", "etc etc etc" this morning. (ok, yesterday morning).

This is after their CEO admitted to flying first class and is paid $600k a year to mange $200 million in funds.

Quite a zai fund-manager sia. Can yearly earn profit with Zoe Tay and Fann Wong helming the fund drive. $200 million. That's like 10 years of free dialysis. and we're still donating?

So please, cancel your donations, when NKF comes around to do free health screening, go for it. Then when they ask you to donate, point to their CEO and ask HIM to donate first. Then talk.

Thank god i canceled my monthly subscription last year. I already paid for Durai's airport Tax to frankfurt.

A lot of people are back

So should we meet up someday when everyone is free?

Again, I put up several ermm... choices for people to vote on:)

1) Dinner @ Brewerkz. Cost: $50. Need to book beforehand.
Pros: Good beer, good ambience, and TV if anyone gets bored.
Cons: Expensive.

2) Dinner @ Long Beach @ East Cost.
Pros: Good food
Cons: Too far for most of you. :) Expensive.

3) Badminton game @ some CC
Pros: I think a lot of people play badminton. Others can sit around at Junction 8 (say Coffee Bean).
Cons: Not everyone plays Badminton.

4) Barbeque @ someone's house (Mine, Maria's, Jose's)
Pros: Easy to prepare. Done it before.
Cons: Location Location Location. And probably too much prep by the host:)

So please comment with your comments and votes and we'll decide soon.

Fyi:
Zhengyan is back from Nepal (Ask him about the Heli Lift)
Maria just touched down from Perth. Antisocial though.
Zhenying is back since Wed/Tues? Working though
